Select Bakery is a fantastic family run bakery and market in East York. They carry traditional Greek pastries and desserts that are old school and modern. The traditional pitas are incredible we had numerous kinds one our last visit in store. We stocked up on hard to find cheeses and goodies to bring back to BC such as hard to find Greek spirits and wines. Our own Grandpa Js Seasoning are stocked in store. A must try is Greko Lemon for delicious Greek flavour at home. As Canadian women owned business from Vancouver we appreciate Select Bakery for supporting small business and stocking our products in store. Try the koulouri, horiatiki pita and a fredo cappuccino next time.
I ordered an apple pie and it was told that it had raisins and walnuts in it, when I got home and actually started eating it I realized that there were no walnuts and no reasons. Not sure how you tell one of your customers that it comes with this and that and when they get home it doesn't come with any of it, I paid $20 for an apple pie that had no thrills or whistles so for this I give you a badreview and make sure that you sell the items that you are advertising to sell.
I bought an apple pie. It was apple pie filling from a tub and the crust was mushy. Service attendant was efficient and kind. Nice looking atmosphere. However, the pie was the purpose of my visit and the pie wasn't good.
MEAN OWNERS!! If there was a category on Google reviews for how rude, disrespectful, and flat out DESPICABLE the business treats their employees, THEY WOULD GET 5 STARS. Put aside the actual products, you will lose people’s BUSINESS with how AWEFUL you treat the young hardworking girls and your CUSTOMERS!! I went in and first hand witnessed the old lady scream and embarrass a teenage employee who visibly looked uncomfortable (over something that a customer requested the young employee do). Not only that, another worker yelled at a customer so loud and rude, I had to leave! There is no baklava (or pay check!) that is worth experiencing and witnessing this treatment. I will never return and you shouldn’t either! the baklava was missing walnuts and the owners were missing RESPECT!!!!
The quality of the food is excellent, but the service can be hit and miss. I was in the other day and one server was taking care of a customer at the deli area. There was no one else around. I could see the service staff in the back and after a few minutes of waiting even said "Helloooooo?" That was ignored. Eventually a woman came out and she was glaring at me. The attitude was sort of "How dare you expect prompt service!?!" The service can be slow or rude at times, but the quality of the baked goods (I'm talking to you, olive bread) keeps me coming back.
Everything I eat from there gives me heartburn, stomach ache. I got a sandwich , baklava and almond cookies. After eating the sandwich and baklava I had severe indigestion, burning. At first I didn’t think it was related to the food, but I waited a few days and then ate some of the almond cookies, extreme indigestion /heart burn. It’s awful, wonder what is going into the baked goods?
Simply put, this is one place you have to visit to believe the variety, quality and savory taste of their handmade products. Whether you buy items to take home and enjoy with friend and family or eat-in on their premises, the parking available there allows you to truly enjoy their authentic European cuisine, regardless of whether you're there for Bougatsa and a fresh latte, baklava or even Tiramisu and a latte you'll never go wrong there. Today I visited them again to pickup some things for home and am very pleased with everything, of course! This week I had their delicious bougatsa and tried their kourabiedes. Wow is all I can say! Thank you all so much for making such amazing things. And yet again on 07/24/23 they didn't disappoint. Just can't get enough of the wonderful items from this place. 12/13/24 - Again I stopped by these folks and enjoyed their food and service. Nothing like a fresh spanakopita, bougatsa, and coffee. Wow! 01/21/25 - Once more and this place NEVER disappoints with my favorites. Not sure how did can taste any better than this folks. Thanks. 05/08/25 (and earlier in April as well) - Just can't get enough of this place. My usual is always an amazing treat. Made and served with pride, and eaten with a large smile and vigor. Can't say enough about the people here and their products. Just wish I could carry home a nice tiramisu cake, but I'm afraid I'd eat half of it myself veggie I get home using the ttc. 11/25/25 - Just can't say or get enough of this place. If they were closer to home, I'd have no choice but to try everything slowly, and then try to stay awake on my walk home. I tried their French stick bread a few months ago and loved it as well. Can't imagine going through this area and not stopping-in for some treats and lunch. Thank you so much for keeping old school European traditions and techniques alive and available to everyone without compromise.
